Technically the first month of the Islamic Calendar is called Moharram. Culturally though, this entire month (specially the first 10 days) are dedicated to the mourning of Imam Hussain and the Battle of Karbala.
Not a “joyous” festival as such1. Coz for the first 10 days, we attend sermons and do matam and all. On the 10th day itself is a day long fast in remembrance of the struggles Imam Hussain and his family had to go through coz of that idiotic fellow.
Different sects of Islam do things differently, but the unifying thing is that Imam Hussain was wronged and he did a big sacrifice by NOT fighting and destroying aforementioned idiotic fellow.
Naqu really takes this period very seriously, which tbh I don’t. I’m weird, I know. But seeing her, I also try to be a bit better during this time.

It’s weird to even consider it a festival ↩
