Good movie really. I didn’t expect it to be a musical when I watched it, but that’s fine I guess. I’m not too much into them, but I did like the songs in the first movie. So this wasn’t half bad, coz songs were a bit similar.

Getting into it…

Since this is kind of a sequel to the first movie, there’s not just one, but different relationships that are somehow intertwined with each other.

There’s Monty (Pankaj Tripathi) and Kajol (Konkana Sen Sharma). There’s also Kajol’s sister Chumki AND Monty Kajol ki beti (idk her name. Pihu 👍). Kajol’s Mother + Father ka relationship is also briefly touched upon, which leads into another story with Anupam Kher (Parimal). There are more, like a singer-programmer and his journalist wife who makes some weird life decisions, and their best friend who is Over Enthu Delhi Guy. So like, 10 folks who are of importance. Oh and Parimal’s daughter-in-law. She’s also… There. Sadly. Like she’s sad. Her role is nice.

Sara Ali Khan (Chumki) was a little.. overacting I guess? Idk. But she reminded me a lot of Naquiyah and Niharika in differing aspects. Not the overacting part, but what she was trying to portray. She is like this unsure lady who’s getting married to a guy who she’s into but not into idk man. She’s very unsure. She runs into Over Enthu Delhi Guy in the weirdest way possible, and then gets him to do her a favor coz she couldn’t confront her fiancee of the weird scenario. Btw they meet in a random city, Bengaluru I think.

Over Enthu Delhi Guy1 also has seemingly over Enthu friends, Singer Programmer Ali Fazal (Akash) and Go-Getter-But-Pls-Dont Fatima Sana Shaikh (Shruti). Which is a nice segue to these two fuckheads, and the first story.

Story Uno

Akash loves to sing, but has daddy issues (who doesn’t). He gets married to Shruti who just fucking loves the shit out of him. Matlab she has some self esteem yeah, but she would lick his feet if it was the 10th century. Waisa pyaar. At least it seemed like it. Girl marries him coz he “full of life and adventurous” etc. She leaves her job and friends and all and shifts to Bangalore with Akash coz he gets a job or something and to support him.

Now Akash has to stop being full of life and shiz coz after marriage he has to try to be a responsible guy and pay rent and work and stuff. How… Did he make money before working? Why did work become an issue just after marriage? He also falls under the unsure category.

But Wait, There's More

Soon, Shruti gets pregnant, and Akash starts flipping about how boring his dad was and that he will also have a boring life after the kid. Obviously, Shruti gets pissed at him, tells him to do what he wants. But then mellows down and says she’ll support him no matter what. So she tries to get an abortion. Wow. Just like that. I get that it’s a movie and you gotta keep it moving.

She doesn’t go through with the abortion, postpones, doesn’t tell the dude, and they both shift to Bombay and Delhi respectively coz Akash wants to be a singer. And Shruti wants to restart her job. Tbh it’s the only good decision she takes in the movie. There due to long distance and Akash having depressive episodes (I could relate to that) , Shruti starts getting irritated at him. She also sees other folks with their kids and regrets that she will have to go through with the abortion some day coz Akash is unstable (in all ways).

But Wait, There's More

Shruti also starts getting super comfy with her cameraman, who is a single father (maybe his wife died. Lucky lady.). She gets close to his kid, starts seeing herself as a pseudo mother to the kid, and starts living in what-ifs with regards to Akash and his no-having-kids-right-now thing. She ignores hubby ka calls, lies to him, etc. etc. She even almost cheats on him one night where she’s chilling at cameraman ka ghar and baccha has slept. So of course gulu gulu has to happen na? BUT at that time, through the director’s direction, she gets a call from Akash asking where she is, to which she promptly lies. She rushes out of there, calls Parth (note: Parth is her best friend. tbh the only pure relationship I know of in the movie) and fucks right back home.

NOW Akash being the dramaqueen he is, has been doubting that Shruti and Parth have a thing going on. He comes to this conclusion by looking at their instagram stories 👍. He is sitting below her building, calls her when he sees Shruti and Parth getting off his bike. When she again “lies”, Akash surprises her (aww so happy -,-) and starts insulting her that she slept with Parth and the kid she aborted (lol) was probably Parth ka and all. You know, standard stuff. She also fights back nicely (u go girl) and calls him a failure (ouch). So… not a wholesome fight.

Dusra Kahani

In Delhi, Parth runs into Chumki. She works there and was in Bangalore for some offsite fun times. They start bonding. Yada yada yada. On time, Parth confronts Chumki masti mein that she’s in a sad relationship and Chumki responds back by calling him a man child. Then they go home and stay less in touch. But both think over what each other told them, and dhire dhire Chumki starts seeing ke her fiance is actually a chutya (no really, he is). They meet rarely, usually stay connected on social media like all the cool kids nowadays, and are more or less going about their lives. Parth gets another

Kahani The Third

Coming back to the first story, between Monty and Kajol. Monty gets inspired by his friends and gets into “Linger”, this movie’s version of Tinder. Trouble is, he seems like a nice fellow who’s been led astray coz of life getting boring. Kajol finds out, coz he is shit at hiding stuff. Or maybe coz the director wanted to move the movie ahead faster. Idk.

Either way, Kajol gets shit mad coz obviously. She also downloads Linger, and tries to find a guy the way he’s finding girls/aunties. After some time, she matches with a fellow called Wing Commander Raina. In a different world altogether, Monty matches with a lady called Maya. Here’s the kicker (-,-). Maya is Kajol, Raina is Monty. Hawwww. Kajol understands this, and she tortures him like anything. She first flirts with him without him know (of course) that maya is his wife only. Then she lures him to a hotel, and humiliates him having him be naked in the middle of a reputed hotel. Serves him right. But she did stretch it a bit by potentially cheating on him with a random dude with a dead gf she met in Goa. Poor Monty saw that (but he also cheated, the fucker). Idk. Conflicting emotions, but Kajol did stretch it a bit.

Char Kahani lekin party abhi baaki hai

Now, Chumki and Kajol na mummy, Shibani (Neetu Kapoor) has had a very householdy life. Her husband also cheated on her (wow so surprise). She gets an invite for her college ka reunion, and she decides to go despite cheating uncle not “allowing” Her to go. There she runs into someone who imo had the worst ending with the purest intentions. Everyone else just wanted to fuck around. Enter Anupam Kher

He reminded Naquiyah and I of her Dadaji, coz he was fighting with some random folks for some random reason. His son and wife died in an accident, and only himself and his son ka wife survived. Now this daughter in law (Jhinku. Cute.) has been taking care of him since the time her hubby and Parimal’s son has died. SWEET PRO MAX. Did I mention Parimal and Shibani had a thing in college??

Anyway, these two oldies meet in their college reunion, where they all sing (everyone fucking loves singing in this movie) and Parimal ruins the party by saying his fam is all ded. Parimal & Shibani hatch a plan (at his ask of course) to get rid of Parimal’s daughter-in-law. Coz she no happy. There is a dude who has been trying to patao her but coz Jhinku promised her hubby she would always take care of his dad, she no getting pataoed. Bummer.

As per the grand plan

Final Thoughts

There were a lotta things I could weirdly “relate” to, kinda?? Like Monty cheating on his wife Kajol. That looked almost out of what I’ve seen between Mum and Dad2.

Footnotes

  1. He does have a name, Parth (Aditya Roy Kapoor).

  2. Granted Mum didn’t fully react this way in the start, but maybe she should have. I only kinda stopped her. Idk. The conclusion between both of their stories felt.. nice, warm, but Monty was apologetic unlike.. yeah.
