Did a tiny quest in The Witcher 3 today, in Toussaint which made feel shit. So I’m writing this note.
I was wandering around, clearing the map of POIs when I stumbled upon a Monster Den. I was kinda overloaded with stuff, so I instead opted to go to a nearby POI which I suspected to be near a fast travel marker too. THAT second POI was an Abandoned Village, where a werewolf had nearly destroyed a small villagey place. I - of course - dispatched of this poor cursed one, and found a note on it (or the victim at that moment, I forgot). The note described how this place was bought by some countess, and 2 of the residents had to vacate the place. I thought not much of it, and got a haircut once the villagers unabandoned the village.
I went back to the Monster Den I had ignored earlier (after selling my loot), and delved deep in it. Found ANOTHER werewolf. I thought it might be connected, coz I had just fought another werewolf in that village and these ain’t very common monsters. After dispatching of this one, I went deeper in the cave and found… 2 bedrolls, a fire some boxes and a diary.
The diary was of that of one Hubert, who I remembered as the surname of the people who were asked to fuck off from the now Abandoned Village. It was a sweet little text, about how they were asked to leave and they came to this cave, how her legs are gonna be fucked because of the stone, etc. Turns out both were werewolves, and kept each other sane and normal. They were given lots of stuff by the villagers because they weren’t bad people, just unlucky coz of the curse. But the other Hubert, the husband, was pissed as fuck, and in one of his attacks he ran away back to the village and (unknowingly ) murdered almost everyone, being out of control now. The wife was very scared for her husband, but also herself coz she had no one to help out her “attacks”, and the text ends with claw marks and ripped pages.
It was so cool that such a random “quest”, stumbled upon by accident could have been so heart wrenching. The game devs are amazing, really.
